As reported earlier, 2020 volunteers will work in various areas and functions in organizational activities related to three matches (Wales-Switzerland, Turkey-Wales, Switzerland-Turkey) and a quarter final match of Euro-2020 to be held in Baku.
AFFA started the registration of volunteers in June 2019. 6797 volunteer candidates were registered within 5 months. Among the 12 cities to host the European championship, Baku has received the highest number of applications for volunteering. More than 6,000 candidates were interviewed face-to-face.
A special reception was held today at the Elektra Events Hall for volunteers who will volunteer in these games. The event was attended by AFFA President Rovnag Abdullayev, Minister Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov, AFFA Secretary General Elkhan Mammadov, Ambassador of Euro 2020 matches to be held in Baku Vali Gasimov and the Ambassador of the Volunteer Program Taleh Yuzbeyov. During the speeches, it was noted that President Ilham Aliyev announced 2020 as the Year of Volunteers in Azerbaijan in order to give impetus to the individual development of youth, to increase their sense of social responsibility, to effectively use the potential of youth for the well-being of the people and sustainable development. Rovnag Abdullayev and Azad Rahimov highlighted the importance of volunteering activity and volunteers, who give a new breath to Euro 2020 with their creativity, initiatives, innovative thinking and a modern outlook.
After the speeches, Rovnag Abdullayev, Azad Rahimov and Elkhan Mammadov presented awards to the Ambassador of the Euro 2020 Vali Gasimov, as well as the Baku Volunteer Program’s Ambassador Taleh Yuzbeyov for their activities and support to the sport event of national importance. At the same time, 4 most active volunteers were awarded gifts. The surprise guest of the reception, which was attended by more than 1500 volunteers, was the popular singer Dilara Kazimova. Then the reception continued with the entertainment program.
