Wales manager Ryan Giggs shared his thoughts about the European Championship matches to be held in Baku and remembered the last match in the qualifiers against the Azerbaijan national team.
The members of the Wales national team are pleased to play two group stage matches of EURO 2020 in Baku. This is what the Wales National Team Manager Ryan Giggs has said, according to Spotsmole.co.uk.
Giggs said that the facilities in Baku are great.
According to the draw held in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, on November 30, Wales were placed in Group A alongside with Italy, Turkey and Switzerland. Three games of this group will be played in Baku. Wales will play their matches against Switzerland (June 13) and Turkey (June 17) in Baku.
“We’ve done a trip to Baku recently and we had a good experience winning there as well. Our first two games will be in Baku so we have got the potential to base ourselves in Baku for Euro 2020,” Giggs said.
Wales beat Azerbaijan 2:0 in Baku in the last round of the 2020 European Championship Qualifiers.
“We'll meet with the team and check out facilities – they were great when we were there. Azerbaijan can adopt us as their second country,” Giggs said.
Talking about their last match of the group stage to be played in Rome, the manager hoped that by that time Italy would already be qualified for play-offs.
“Hopefully Italy have got six points by then and play their reserves,” Giggs said.
It is worth to note that Baku Olympic Stadium will also host a quarterfinal game of EURO 2020 on July 4.
